Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol that is used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange data between a web server and a client. Because the data exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands that may be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the options are limited because you will not have root access to the hosting server, so you can just create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions that are executed in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. Through a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

In case you have a shared hosting account with us and you would like to handle your content remotely through SSH, you may get SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not provide this feature by default, you can easily add it with a few mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. Within the SSH section of the Control Panel, you will see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You can even choose what password you would want to use, given that it doesn't need to be the same as the one for your account. We have prepared a lot of Help articles in which you could find each of the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they are used. Also, if SSH access is permitted for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection by using a standard client like FileZilla, for example.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is offered as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you could add it via the hosting Control Panel if required - even just for the current month. Either way, you could activate and de-activate the feature with one click through the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you'll find the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You shall also find a box where you could input the password that you'd like to use, as it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as much as you require. A full list of the commands which can be performed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and a couple of examples. An extra feature after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

All our virtual private server packages include SSH access as standard, so you will not have to add any upgrades or activate anything - the instant the server is set up and you receive its login information, you'll be able to connect via its primary IP address and the login credentials which you have picked through the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts come with full root-level access, there are no restrictions in terms of the commands that you can run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage virtually everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. In this way, you are able to work with your files, databases and any apps that you install in a fast and risk-free way.
